Why Angels hide with Devils

“A hero doesn’t always arrive on time to save you. A hero will not always save the day but when a hero sees an injustice, he must do what he can to set it right. Even if it could cost him his life.”

I like to consider myself the Batman of DayZ. Most heroes help those they can with food, water, etc… I personally like to help from the shadows. I’m that guy that randomly shows up when you’re cuffed and about to be executed only to leave after dropping bandages and food. I will stalk a group of survivors to determine if they are bandits and act quickly if they are.

This time was different. I heard gunshots near me and investigated the area till I found the culprits, 3 heavily armed individuals wearing masks had 2 fresh spawns on their knees with a corpse nearby. Immediately I flank around searching for another member or a sniper. After checking to see if it was clear, the masked men were now making one of their victims give them blood. After they gave him a blood transfusion from a different bag.

I have seen this tactic before. Bandits will collect bags of untested blood and then catch fleshlings to take out his blood and replace it. If they survived they would probably be let go. This guy didn’t survive though.

I wasn’t in a position to do anything. I had a pistol and a fire axe but I’d only be able to kill one of them easily. A fire fight with these guys would kill me instantly. While I tried to come up with a plan of action, they did the same thing to the next guy. He lived but only long enough for one of the masked men to chop him down with an axe. At this point I’m feeling pretty low. 3 possibly innocent men killed and 2 of them in front of me. I cursed myself for not at least causing a distraction that could have let the two escape. Now I’m hidden with 3 bandits. I already know I want to avenge these men but how?

My plan was ballsy but it was a plan none the less. I speak over the mic congratulating them on a great performance. They immediately panic and start franticly searching around them. I continue to speak telling them I am part of a bandit clan that are looking for people to join however as a bandit myself I didn’t trust them and that a few of my sniper buddies would be aiming at them when I was ready to meet with them.

They agreed to my terms and each put their weapons down, with their hands up, and walked ten steps towards the nearby school (which was opposite of my direction) until their faces touched the wall. I would then come out standing above their weapons before telling them to turn around. I picked up one of their aks and sprayed at their legs. They each went down. One of them asked me why, and I replied by emptying the entire clip at them. I didn’t kill them. Even with my sights squared at them, I couldn’t end their lives. I couldn’t give up my morals even after I saw what they did. I couldn’t kill them, but the zombies could and that’s why I emptied the clip. The sound brought some that were nearby. As they started chasing me, I ran towards the masked bandits and then through the school. I could hear the zeds killing the bandits.

I couldn’t enjoy the sound though because I got jumped by a zed inside the school. It only hit me once before I was able to hack at it but I didn’t see the next one coming for me. Its a pretty dumb way to die but I wasn’t paying attention to myself. Just too busy being happy my plan worked…though if I would have killed them myself, I would have probably still lived but it was worth it. Whoever you guys were, I’m sorry I couldn’t save you. I’ll keep working at being a better hero. DayZ needs heroes who will do what they can to do what’s right.

but i was dividend on being bandit or hero than i read you story made me feel like be Hero is harder but it right thing to do and i going to try hard to be hero to people i meet in DayZ when it come to xbox one. you did right… `No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were: any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee` by john donne
